CLEARWATER HISTORY AND ACTIVITIES!

Clearwater has a most interesting history.  It was founded by people from outside of Florida with the promise to one hundred and sixty acres of land if they were to bear arms and cultivate the land during the civil war period.  This was offered by the governor of the state while in Fort Harrison.  After this the population grew to about four hundred people.  By that same winter, the population had grown to nearly one thousand people.  Union ships used to come in from the multiple beaches from the army all the time.  A few that have sunk can even be explored by those who are willing to snorkel or scuba dive.  They are now the habitat of thousands of tropical marine animals that are docile and fun to see!  Gradually the city grew to what it is today promising adventure and fun around every corner.  There is so much history to Clearwater and so much to see.  Fort Harrison is now tour able and is a great place to take the family for some history and a lot of fun!

Now, Clearwater is a vast and vibrant city FULL of life and excitement.  Annual events here in the city include the Imagine International Film Festival; Fun N Sun festival, (April through May); Clearwater celebrates America, (July fourth); Clearwater Jazz Holiday, (October); Hispanic Heritage Festival, (October); Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3, (November 2006 through 2010).  These are just a few examples of the awesome annual events held in this city, but there are many many more!

Clearwater has been the home to many famous and well known people.  The crazy and extreme Evel Knievel, one of the greatest and most daring stunt kings ever, lives just three miles from Clearwater BeachRicky Carmichael, a retired motocross racer, lives on the east side of the city.  Hulk Hogan, a former World Wrestling Federation champion belt winner and star of the popular television show Hogan knows best, maintains a huge estate in neighborhood Belleair and has a beach house on Clearwater BeachLisa Marie Presley, the only child of The Elvis Presley and famous song-write and singer, lives with her family on the west side of the city.  Aaron Gillespie, the former drummer of the band Underoath and the lead vocalist for the band The Almost, lives with his wife on the north end of Clearwater.  These are just a few of the people who choose to call Clearwater their home.

Clearwater has a great sports back round!  Come visit Brighthouse Field where baseball legends are made.  It's the home of the Clearwater Threshers.  The Phillies spring training schedule includes 18 games at this field.  This is the training field for the Philadelphia Phillies who won the World Series this year against the Tampa Bay Rays.  A great improvement and success for the team!  Rent a car and come see where it all starts every season!
